European Roulette
The Fundamentals
The European Roulette does not differ from the other roulette variations in its basics. Players make their bets on which number pocket the ball will fall. The European Roulette wheel is consisted of 37 number pockets. Numbers from 1 to 36 alternate between black and red and there is only one zero pocket, which is colored in green. The alignment of the pockets on the wheel appears to be random, but is actually arranged in a mathematical order so there would be and equal chance for each number to win.
The house advantage in European Roulette is significantly decreased as compared to the American, due to the fact that it has only one zero pocket. The European variant has the additional “en-prison” rule According to this rule, if the ball falls down on the zero pocket, players who placed an even-money bet have the opportunity to either lose half of the original bet or leave it where it is to be played in the next round.
The European Roulette uses regular casino chips, instead of the special roulette chips in the American variant. This makes keeping track of your bet a bit more difficult, so each player should pay attention where his wagers were placed. All bets are handled by the croupier with the aid of a special stick. Bets could be placed on the table until the croupier announces “no more bets” and any made after that moment would be discarded.

Betting
The bets pay according to the probability of the number to come out as winning. Each table has a different minimum and maximum and players cannot bet accordingly less or more than the fixed amounts. The betting layout is not much different than those of other roulette variations and the bets fall into two major groups - “inside” and “outside” bets.
Inside bets
- Straight bet
Bet is placed on one number. The odds and payout are 35-to-1
- Split bet
