European Blackjack

Without a doubt, European Blackjack is one of the most well known and loved variations of the classic game of Blackjack that many of us grew up learning to play. The most remarkable difference between European Blackjack and standard Blackjack is the fact that the player plays out his entire hand while the dealer has just one card, meaning that the dealer cannot win blackjack right from the start. This allows the player to raise the value of the bet before the dealer looks to see if he has blackjack.

In this game, two decks of cards are used (although you can find casinos that use up to six decks). In European Blackjack, a player is only allowed to bet one hand at a time. The face cards are valued at ten while the Aces can be either one or eleven. There is no surrender allowed in this game and you can double after a split and only on nine to eleven. The dealer stands on a soft 17. There is no re-splitting allowed in European Blackjack and no hole card - the player loses his bet if the dealer has a Blackjack. Although insurance is offered in European Blackjack, it is generally not recommended to take it.

Due to the fact that there is no dealer hole card, the player often finds it hard to know if he should make split bets or not. Even though the odds of having a straight blackjack are low, the player risks losing twice his bet if he splits his hand and and is beaten.

European Blackjack is a fast paced game and a real challenge that many people love. The excitement this game offers makes lifelong fans quickly. It is rather easy to master with time and is widely played in casinos everywhere.
