Parx Casino Could Boost Pennsylvania’s Gambling Market Growth by Launching Online Sportsbook in Early June

Bensalem-based Parx Casino has revealed its intentions to officially roll out online sports betting services at the beginning of June. Yesterday, casino officials confirmed that the casino will test its online sports betting systems this month. According to estimates, the launch of the online sportsbook could boost the growth of Pennsylvania’s sports betting market.

The company which operates the Parx Casino, Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment Inc., revealed the launch dates for the service during the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board’s hearing to see its license renewed. The Board voted unanimously to approve the license renewal, following a public hearing n the matter which was held at the end of February 2019.

The approval of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has made Parx Casino one of the state’s casinos to offer sports betting services. Along with it, the board also gave the nod to the sports betting license application for the Mohegan Sun Pocono. In addition, Erie-based Presque Isle Downs Casino already has a license and is expected to start offering sports betting services in the near future. Another gambling venue – Mount Airy Casino Resort in the north-eastern part of the state, is applying for a sports betting license.

Parx Casino Could Be the First to Roll Out Mobile Sports Betting App in the State

After the federal ban on sports betting was lifted in May 2018 by the US Supreme Court, states around the country started to add the new form of gambling to their legal gambling operations.

Since its official launch in November 2018 at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course, the new form of gambling has generated moderate returns. Pennsylvania’s sports betting gross revenue in March totaled $5.5 million, with $44.5 million wagered. On the other hand, Parx Casino is the largest gambling venue in the state, with about 2,600 people working at the casino and race track. Since the gambling hall started operation in 2006, it has generated overall tax revenue of $2.6 billion, with over 90% of that revenue being generated by slot machines.

Now, Parx Casino could be the first to roll out an online sportsbook in the state of Pennsylvania. According to reports, it has joined forces with Kambi technology for the sportsbook development and the product which is expected to be launched soon would offer a variety of features.

Apart from Parx Casino, there are two other gambling operators which have been known to be working on their sportsbook apps – SugarHouse and BetRivers. Along with Parx, SugarHouse has been also considered most likely to release the first online sportsbook in Pennsylvania. BetRivers has also revealed to be working on online sports betting app which is not expected to launch until June. Both SugarHouse and BetRivers have also teamed up with Kambi for the development of their online sports betting apps.
