Las Vegas Casino Operators Introduce Panic Button Devices to their Workers

The very last days of May brought a considerable threat to the casino field of Las Vegas, since as many as 50,000 casino employees hired by some of the largest operators in the field made it clear that they are ready to go out on a citywide strike and cease work if their contracts are not renewed for five more years.

One of the demands they had featured the introduction of panic buttons to their work places and now they are set to receive the devices. For a brief moment, the gambling field of Las Vegas was seriously threatened by the strike of employees willing to seek their rights and demand that their employment contracts are renewed for another five years. Two of the major casino employees in the field, Casino Entertainment, and MGM Resorts were concerned by the consequences of such strike as there was the estimation that they would lose as much as $10 million for every single day of the protest.

In order to prevent the field from suffering the negative consequences of this strike, action was taken. Among the people willing to go out on a strike are people hired at positions ranging from bartenders and housekeepers, cooks and other kitchen helpers to cocktail and food servers, porters, and bellmen. The properties that had the potential to be affected by a possible strike included Caesars Palace, Bellagio, MGM Grand, Planet Hollywood, The D, Stratosphere, and El Cortez.

MGM Resorts and Caesars Entertainment were the first casino developers and operators to sign tentative deals which were then followed by the official contracts signing. Along with the salary raises which were demanded by the casino employees and are expected to come in effect over the following five years, the workers were also in need of special panic buttons which could come in use in situations of danger.

Renewed Employment Contracts Bring Improvement to Operation

According to the recently issued information, casino developers which have already settled deals and new contracts with their workers are now going to begin rolling out the panic button devices which are expected to provide protection for their employees. The ultimate objective of them is going to be to prevent any potentially harmful situations from taking place at the work place when there is no security in the workers’ vicinity.

With the help of these easily-portable and small devices, they will have the chance to call for help if they happen to be in a situation which threatens their well-being or puts their health at risk. Sexual harassment has been one of the leading topics for many months now and people have been concerned with the way people of authority can interact with their subordinate employees.

With the help of these devices, workers will be able to send an alert straight to the authorities which would then react in a timely manner and send help to the location. In the past, there have been many reported instances of uncomfortable interactions with guests of the hotel venues and it is high time that they came to an end with the help of technology.

MGM Resorts was the first casino developer to introduce the said devices to its properties, which not only detect the signal sent but also track the location if an employee decides to leave its original spot.
