Rapper Drake Loses $300,000 on F1 Bet

In one of his recent Instagram stories, the Canadian rapper Drake shared a screenshot of a bet he made on Stake’s betting platform. Drake’s wager was placed on Charles Leclerc winning the Spanish Grand Prix. As the screenshot revealed, the famous rapper made a bet of CA$300,000 using Bitcoin to fund his betting account.

Unfortunately, Drake’s first F1 bet ended up being a losing one and he said goodbye to his massive stake. While Leclerc was leading the race at the time Drizzy posted about his bet, he lost his leading position on Sunday afternoon due to an engine failure.

Drizzy Makes His First F1 Bet with Partner Platform

Just a few days ago, the Canadian rapper Drake posted a story on his Instagram page, showing a screenshot of his recent bet placed on Charles Leclerc winning the Spanish Grand Prix. Beneath the screenshot, Drizzy wrote the caption “First F1 bet, let’s see how it goes.” The screenshot revealed that the rapper placed a bet of CA$300,000 on the Ferrari Ace to win the championship, with the potential return having been CA$750,000.

In addition to the generous amount Drake has placed with his bet, the story post also revealed that the wager was made on Stake’s platform. In April, the rapper announced his partnership with the cryptocurrency betting site, with Drizzy hinting about the possible collaboration for months.

Stake promotes itself as a leading cryptocurrency betting site and online casino. With Drake having about 104 million followers on Instagram, a partnership between the betting platform and the Canadian rapper could potentially bring Stake a huge wave of new customers.

Drake Ends Up Losing His First Major F1 Bet

At the time Drizzy boasted about his very first wager placed on an F1 race, Leclerc was leading the pole, with the Ferrari racer taking the leading position for the first 27 laps. However, neither Leclerc nor Drake took into account a possible engine issue. Due to power unit problems, the 24-year-old racing driver could not finish the race, forcing him to say goodbye to the win.

Leclerc, who seemed like the sure winner of the race until the 27th lap, sounded frustrated over the radio when he signaled his team that his car was losing power. The racing driver was able to get to the pit area where the team of mechanics was waiting for him so they could take the car and the Monégasque driver out of the race.

This accident marked the first time Leclerc was not able to finish a race as he was able to show a great performance in all of his previous competitions. Leclerc’s misfortune engine failure, however, also cost Drizzy’s first major F1 bet. While the rapper has often shared his interest in other sports by betting on the Super Bowl, or showing his support for the Toronto Raptors, this wager was his first dive into F1. The huge loss left many wondering if he would continue his betting endeavors on motorsports.
