Trump Critics See “Something Poetic” in Scheduled Demolition of Trump Plaza Casino after Biden’s Inauguration Day

The implosion of the iconic Trump Plaza Casino tower in Atlantic City is set to take place on January 29th, just days after the Inauguration Day of the President-elect Joe Biden.

The critics of President Trump and his claims of “voter fraud” have cited the 39- story tower’s demolition date as a metaphor for his policy and behavior since Election Day. Only recently, the mayor of Atlantic City, Marty Small, officially revealed the end to the long years of financial dispute over the former casino venue.

The establishment, once owned by Trump, started operation in 1984 and permanently ceased operation in 2014. In March 2019, Atlantic City officials described the building situated on the Boardwalk as a “public safety hazard” that must be demolished as soon as possible.

The destruction of the Trump Plaza structure will finally wipe all major Trump properties out from the Atlantic City skyline. Yesterday, the former Democratic Senator from the state of Missouri Clair McCaskill shared a video of an Atlantic City resident standing next to the Trump Plaza structure and proclaiming “Go Biden”. She wrote on Twitter that there is “something poetic” in the fact that the wrapped and netted structure of the Trump Plaza is set to be destroyed a few days after the expected Inauguration Day of Joe Biden as President of the US.

No More Major Trump-Owned Gambling Properties in Atlantic City

The Trump Plaza building has been controversial for quite some time. Atlantic City officials and some local officials have spent years in fencing, as they were concerned that people passing by are exposed at risk of being hit by falling debris of the structure.

The casino closed in September 2014, with the property being owned by the billionaire developer Carl Icahn since 2016. The bankruptcies of the Trump Organization date back to 1992, with them affecting the operation’s performance with financial burdens for years. Then, in 2014, Trump took Trump Entertainment Resorts, which he no longer owned at the time, under allegations of disrepair. He demanded to have his name officially removed from the Trump Plaza building.

Previously, now-President Donald Trump owned two other casino venues in Atlantic City – Trump Marina and Trump Taj Mahal, both of which were rebranded and run under new management after a number of Trump bankruptcies. The former Trump Marina building now serves as the Golden Nugget casino, while the Taj Mahal casino was sold in 2017 and became the Hard Rock Casino.

The property is still owned by Icahn Enterprises, which is planning to clean it up through June 2021. Following the demolition, a smaller tower, where a Rainforest Cafe is hosted, and a parking deck are set to remain on the oceanfront property.
