Cache Creek Casino Remains Shut for Unspecified Period Due to Cyberattack

Reports have emerged that the closure of the popular Brooks resort about 10 days ago was due to an external attract that had been faced by Cache Creek Casino’s computer system.

Earlier this week, a spokesperson of the casino revealed that a major disruption in the computer system occurred and while the investigation is still being held, it has been addressed as an “external attack” on the casino’s computer network. It also became clear that the attack was not focused on the casino business activities only but both to the business’ patrons and employees, putting them all at risk of having their electronic information stored in the computer network of the casino compromised.

The spokesperson shared that the Cache Creek Casino puts the privacy of its workers and customers as a top priority, so the establishment’s management wants to make sure everything is back to normal before reopening. Currently, the casino is working in collaboration with independent experts who are experienced in investigating similar incidents to determine whether any risks to data security had occurred. As explained by the casino’s spokesperson, such attacks should not be underestimated and could take weeks in order for thorough and qualitative research is finalized.

If the investigation shows that the personal information of guests or employees was exposed to unauthorized third parties, the casino would notify the affected individuals in writing.

Cache Creek Casino Already Suffered Lengthy Closure Earlier in 2020 Due to Covid-19

This is the second time the casino has faced closure. Earlier in 2020, it was kept shut for about two months due to the global coronavirus crisis. It resumed operations on June 6th, under strict disinfection and social distancing requirements applicable for both its workers and patrons. Constant cleaning and temperature checks protocols were implemented in the venue, along with increased spacing between gaming tables and slot machines to make sure there was a smaller chance of spreading the infection.

As mentioned above, Cache Creek Casino Resort is set to remain shut until technicians make sure they enhance the casino’s infrastructure and all operations are brought back to normal.

The statement, which the casino published on September 30th, also revealed that such computer attacks are getting more serious, with a popular Las Vegas-based casino, a large healthcare company and some well-known banks becoming their targets recently. The casino management, however, remains sure that the operator would successfully overcome the difficulties faced because of the network system attack.

For the time being, the casino has not unveiled an exact reopening date. Still, the staff of the gambling venue shared they are making good progress on the incident and an official announcement of a reopening date would probably be made soon.

At the time when the casino ceased operations about 10 days ago due to what was announced as “unforeseen systems failure” at the time. The Yocha Dehe Golf Club was not affected by the breach and remains operational. The Cache Creek Mini Mart is also open but only cash transactions are currently permitted.
