Southland Park Might See $200M Expansion After Arkansas Casino Amendment OK

This Tuesday is eyed by everyone in the United States as individuals will have the chance to participate in the midterm elections, exercising their right to vote on crucial amendments as well as senator re-election. If the proposed Issue 4 in Arkansas attracts the support of more than half of the voters, it will bring an extensive expansion to the existing Southland Park Gaming and Racing, boosted by the $200 million provided by Delaware North.

It has been confirmed that Delaware North is currently giving careful consideration to a potential expansion of its venue in West Memphis. According to the information issued recently, the project reaches $200 million. As a result, the area will witness the introduction of a brand new hotel tower in addition to a convention center further increasing the popularity of the West Memphis race course.

New Hotel and Convention Center Diversify Area

Upon serious consideration, the parent company overseeing Southland Gaming and Racing has come to the conclusion that gaming enthusiasts should be provided with accommodation on a premium level. Their number is projected to climb progressively if the casino amendment receives the approval of a predominant part of the sate population.

This would, in turn, result in people traveling from distant locations just so they could experience the new casino perks available on site. The hotel tower will have the capacity to welcome them and guarantee their pleasant stay. In addition to that, there will be a convention center built in the vicinity which will attract artists’ performances and diversify the local live events programme. For the time being, information about a particular time frame of construction has not been issued, as this is a matter of further discussion.

However, there is a high possibility that if the two projects are in fact built on the site of the race course, some of the existing facilities will have to undergo reconstruction. After the results of the ballot have been publicly announced, further work on the proposed expansion project will commence.

The developer is set to conduct the mandatory environmental assessment which paves the way for every new project. It is going to estimate the current condition of the soil in the area, making sure further construction will not negatively impact the ecosystem.

Issue 4 Voting Well on Its Way

Voters had the chance to register for participation in these midterm elections before 30th October. Each and every one of them will have a saying on the matter of casino expansion. A potential casino expansion throughout the state is a possibility which could significantly improve the local economy in the long run. Individuals will be more inclined to make their way to the region and to Southland Park’s complex, of course.

The area of West Memphis, in particular, is projected to witness a gaming expansion of the ballot question receives enough support on 6th November. Casino-style gaming will be introduced in its full range, making the facility even more popular. The existing offerings range from Craps, Roulette, and Video Poker to a premium poker room and the high limit gaming devices. It also provides its patrons with simulcast betting available on site, as well as greyhound racing condemned by animal rights supporters.

Previous rumors about dog racing shut down on site have been proven wrong by the management of the racing track. The campaign further popularizing Issue 4 has witnessed the support of tribes such as Cherokee Nation Businesses and Downstream Development Authority of the Quapaw Tribe, pouring a combined $5.8 million.

In addition to that, Delaware North has invested some $1.1 million in support of the amendment and informing people about its potential. The 1st June 2019 deadline will aim to bring applications for casino operation in both Pope and Jefferson County once a green light is given to Issue 4. Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Garland County is also going to welcome casino-style offerings on site.
