Blackjack Bankroll Management
A Blackjack bankroll is the sum of money you are willing to spend playing the game. Managing your bankroll is very important as it will dictate how much you can afford to lose and how long you will play. When deciding what your bankroll will be, you should set it at the amount of money you can actually afford to lose. You should never bring more money with you than what you can afford because playing Blackjack should be fun and not something that will put you into a financial mess that can quickly get out of hand.

When you enter a casino with the intent on playing Blackjack you need to first take a look at the limits set on the individual tables as they will tell you the minimum and maximum allowed bets. In the case for example that you have brought just $100, you certainly do not want to play at a $100 to $500 table nor should you even start at a $10 minimum table. Instead you should look for a $1 plus or a $5 plus table. If you are planning to play just for the fun of it with the hope of winning, locking in profits should not matter. On the other hand, if you are intent on winning and leaving with a profit, you should plan to save your profits regularly. In order to keep your bankroll growing and to save profits, you should plan to divide the profit from each hand that you win - setting half of it back into your bankroll and putting the other portion away and not touching it - under any circumstances. Once you have finished playing up your bankroll, the cash you saved as profit is your winnings and hopefully the amount is more than what your beginning bankroll was.
Blackjack bankroll management also includes knowing when to stop. In Blackjack, the term 'steaming' is used quite often and it is something that many players are familiar with. Steaming happens when a player loses control of his rational thinking processes at those times he may be losing a lot of cash or several consecutive hands, but he lacks the discipline to control his emotional state. Bad decisions are made, betting becomes sloppy, and if strategies were being followed, they are put to the wayside as he spends more than what is in his bankroll. Casinos love when players 'steam' as this is when they make a big profit. It is a horrible idea to try to rectify your losses by going over your allotted bankroll. By having a bankroll that is made up of cash you know that you can afford to lose, you will not become upset when you lose it. This is probably the most important aspect of bankroll management.
If you are not aware of how to handle your bankroll, then you will more than likely end up losing your money a lot quicker than the player who does know a thing or two about bankroll management. It is important to remember that once you begin to win, you should never increase the amount you are betting because more often than not you will lose your profits.
When playing Blackjack, be sure that you are using cash which you can afford to lose. Do not use your mortgage, food or other bill money. Unfortunately, many people let themselves get carried away when playing the game, and you certainly do not want your good fun turning into an addiction. Blackjack should be played for entertainment purposes only and if you end up winning, that is a great bonus so be sure to look at it in that way.
