Atlantic City Blackjack

Atlantic City Blackjack is played quite the same way as classic Blackjack, with a slight variation. This game was first played in casinos in Atlantic City, New Jersey and was thus named as it is.

Eight decks of cards are used in this game. The dealer possesses two cards at the start of play - one that is face up and the other face down, unlike in European Blackjack where he has just one card. So, if the card that is showing is valued at 10 or more or if it is an Ace, he will look at the other card to check if he has blackjack. In the case that he does, the play is over. This means that the player faces a lesser chance of losing a large sum of money.

In Atlantic City Blackjack, doubling down is allowed on any two cards and then after a split. The player can split his hand up to three times to make a total of four hands. For the player who has had the luck of being dealt two Aces, he can split these, but just one time. An Ace that is split can only be dealt one more card. In the case that the player splits an Ace and then gets dealt a card that is worth 10, this will be considered a 21 and not a blackjack. The dealer stands on soft 17 in this game and the player has the late surrender option.

A player is paid out at odds of 3-2 if he wins with a blackjack, and at 1-1 with other wins. Insurance is offered in Atlantic City blackjack but it is generally not advisable to take it as the odds are with the house.

Atlantic City blackjack is a very fun game to play and it can be played as a single hand game as well as a multi-hand game. Be aware of the fact that when playing the multi-hand version that the more hands you play, the less chance you have of getting the cards you had hoped to get.
